I don't think that there is any real escaping that a Knight Enchanter is a mage with a knightly theme and a few cool new tricks. Hard to get early on, though you can buy it at level 16. Even if you can't get that armour though, you can use warrior armour on other classes if you craft it with Silverite. You may want to consider making your KE your second character. You are on PS4, correct? That means I can't nug you. You may not be able to get that armour though, as it's DLC and very late game. With the Blade of Tirdarion and Vestments of the Dragon Hunter he looked the part, at the very least. Probably far better off using the Sigil of Lyrium and focusing on barrier, but It wasn't hard enough that I was tempted to sacrifice what I wanted my character to be (a kick ass knight mage) for statistical benefits. It is suboptimal, gameplay wise, to put much into Guard as a KE. I gave my sword + crit as well as a boost to damage % that is higher the more enemies are nearby, but I mostly gave myself health to increase my max guard. Though again, there must have been a reason it was designed the way it is. I don't really like to point fingers, but it does smell like bad game design in the sense that I don't want a 'Smash 1 Button to Win', but rather a cool spellsword that combines some aspects from both might and magic. Shame that it used to be such a cookie-cutter ability. Though I readily admit that I might be looking at the KE too much from the 'Sword' angle and not from the 'Barrier' angle due to my fondness with the DA:O arcane warrior. I'm mostly worried that I'm shoehorned to a style of play which makes the Spirit Blade situational at best, rather than a mainstay of the build. It looks nice and mobile, though unfortunately it leans very heavily on the magic side of the equation. Other than the spells, did you try to increase your crit chance or similar to increase your melee/sword output?

Make sure you give your warrior the Fortifying Blast upgrade for the horn.įantastic. So long as you remember not to neglect the rest of your squad, a Souls player will have no trouble with the new KE. Anyone with the slightest intention of using skills other than Spirit Blade will prefer the new KE to the old one.

Instead of almost forcing you into doing nothing but holding down a single button, it encourages you to use a diverse range of skills and abilities for different purposes. The Knight Enchanter is better now then it was before. They are basically the Dark Souls players who read about the Drake Sword before they started playing, used it as a crutch, didn't upgrade any other weapons or learn basic play and then found themself unable to progress once it became outleveled. When their one button win strategy was removed, instead of adapting they took to the internet to voice their complaints. This created a subset of players who flocked to the class because it was the "best" and used it as a crutch to survive difficulty levels beyond their skill. In almost every situation, their best option was to use Spirit Blade. Befiore, Knight Enchanters were the simplest and most boring specialisation.

In my opinion, the Knight Enchanter hasn't been nerfed at all. Especially with the blade of Tirdarion and a KE who likes to close in.įade Step and triple Fire Mine are definitely ones you will want, but you figured that out yourself.

With the upgrade that makes it hit people when you do, this does good damage, good crowd control and charges Spirit Blade incredibly quick. A must for every mage, one of the best single target damage spells in the entire game, a great way to instantly charge SB. One of the best ways to quickly charge Spirit Blade, excellent AoE damage, good CC.

It was my first full playthrough on Nightmare and it was tough at first, but by the time I got to Skyhold (ie, before specialisations were an issue) things evened out and it wasn't hard.Ĭhain Lightning. When I finished my Rift Mage I dived into my Knight Enchanter playthrough. Alternatively I've been thinking to just go with an AoE Rift Mage for the theme if I can't get the feeling right. Not quite sure is this the right way to go though. *Use the triple fire mine to create charges and

*Cast Blizzard on the area to generate charges *Boost my critical chance as high as possible So that made me wonder how should I build it to be still viable in melee without resorting to too much shenanigans? I was thinking of playing it on nightmare from the beginning, as to keep up with my Dark Souls fetish.Ĭrit/Blizzard/Fade-Step/Fire Mine/Spirit Blade Thus I'm hesitant to try it now, as I really want to get the 'right vibe' of smacking people with my sword and cast spells in a medium armor as support. However, I've read quite a lot of very negative things about it after the Trespasser nerf/update. So I've been thinking of getting the DA:I GOTY Edition, and to rock a Knight Enchanter, as I loved my DA:O Arcane Warrior build.
